We went to the Peach-tree Road United Methodist Church for our Christmas eve service. We did not like the Baptist church close to our house in Atlanta and decide to find a nice one for ourselves. The church is magnificent. The Organ is huge and sounding beautifully. You can see the processing at the start of the service from these pictures which we do not have in our Baptist church. Mr. Wesley and his brother always thought they belonging to the English church and never dreamed starting a new separate church instead. Today’s Methodist service still has a lot of ceremonial ceremonies and precessing left from Catholics.
The preacher talked well. I always think Baptist preacher can talk, but this one doing it very elegantly. He talked everything from Bible and was very impressive.
Then another processing to light the Jesus’ candle. There were too many females in the rank of preachers while Bible teaches us that woman should keep quite in the temple.
When we were holding the candle and singing the ” Silent Night”, I was deeply moved by the Holy Spirit. Anyway we were there celebrating our Lord’s coming. He brought us hope, new life and future. the ceremony and processing are secondary to what we all believe. I do not feel the need to quarrel with the Wesley brothers or the preacher there. We have the same Lord, same believe and same hope.
